Our Smart Skills ACADEMIC program provides schools with an engaging and transformational learning model for students. A creative and innovative resource for schools, TRANSITIONS Empowerment Center offers a proven curriculum designed for students that are at risk of failing in the traditional school setting due to failing grades, negative behaviors, suspensions, low attendance or even expulsion. Developed to be interactive and wrapped around academic standards, developmental assets and character education skills that make learning fun and learners successful. The academic standards are focused on writing, listening and speaking skills.

The nationally recognized course of study currently offered at TRANSITIONS has been extremely effective in the Indianapolis, Indiana public school system. This strength based learning curriculum of Cowboy Poetry and Journey of the Spirit Horse incorporates academic, life and character skills in an engaging and creative experience for children. Powerful and adaptable to various learning styles, the Smart Skills ACADEMIC program is an exciting and innovative curriculum that utilizes the Strides Learning Model as its foundation of practice. 

Which students can benefit from EIL Sessions?

The Equine Interactive Learning(EIL) model offered at TRANSITIONS has been used very effectively in many schools nationwide and is gaining global recognition for producing tangible improvement in individual performance.  The experiential forum is also considered one of the most dynamic human development programs available today. Our program requires no previous experience with horses and does not involve mounted activities. Why horses?

Lesson plans from the Journey of the Spirit Horse curriculum support the Search Institute’s 40 Developmental Assets. These critical assets have been researched and identify what children need in their lives to become a productive and healthy adult.

Working together to meet your needs and support your goals the TRANSITIONS team collaborates with parents, teachers, therapists and school administrators to customize programs for groups or individual students. Our staff will collaborate with teachers to develop lesson plans based on the goals for their students and the instructional standards used by their school.
